Cycling to Iverica Monastery: Hidden History in the Sićevo Gorge

I biked to the Iverica Monastery in Ostrovica through the Sićevo Gorge, the ride was tough but worth it. The monastery dates to the 14th century and is believed to have been founded by monks from the Georgian Iveron Monastery. Some original parts are still standing, like the mutvak-odzaklija from the old konak and a seized stone pyramid. During excavations, they found arrows, spears, armor, and coins from the time of Uroš I. Inside, the chapel ceiling is painted like a starry sky. There’s also a cemetery for workers who died building the nearby railway tunnel. This place really has a long and rich history. I sat there for a bit before heading back. Worth the trip.
