A Winter Visit to the Moravica River in Sokobanja, Serbia
Even in February, Sokobanja is a great place to escape the city and enjoy nature in eastern Serbia. During my winter visit, the trees were bare, but the Moravica River and the surrounding landscape were still worth exploring. The river flows through a scenic canyon near Sokobanja and is known for its clean, cold water—perfect for swimming in summer. I didn’t try it this time, but I’ve heard locals say it’s refreshing on hot days. Historically, the Moravica River was famous for its crayfish, which were once exported to places like Paris, London, and Monte Carlo. I visit Sokobanja at least once a year, and whether you're into hiking, riverside walks, or weekend getaways in Serbia, I highly recommend adding it to your list.
