Kamenica - Waterfall near Niš
Kamenica is a very small village in southeast Serbia, near Niš. It has a population of about 1600, and what is remarkable about this place, or more specifically its spring "Srećkovo vrelo", is that it was the main source of drinking water for the ancient Roman city, Naissus. From here the aqueducts would supply the whole city with freshwater you see in the picture above. On my bike, I went there this spring and finally saw the river in all its glory forming the waterfall near the St. George monastery. The spring is located in a small canyon nearby that has very nice rock formations, and it is certainly a great place for photographers and nature lovers.
If you're visiting this place, be advised, the spring is usually active only in spring so if you'd like to see the waterfall you can come here in April.
